Besides different kinds of literature and verbal resources, antecedent and contemporary philologist’s essays, and other available monographs, the Arabic translation of Aristotle’s Historia Animalium, prepared by Syrian scholar, Yaḥya (John) Ibn al-Batrīq, was one of the most important al-Jāḥiẓ’s sources His influence of Aristotle was not only in the form of quotations and adaptations but also, he had many creative inspirations, which resulted in his personal contemplations of surrounding nature. A very illustrious case which discriminates his book from Aristotle’s thoughts and other Islamic zoological texts is a kind of spider with the Arabic name Layth. al-Jāḥiẓ’s detailed account of the hunting etiology of this arthropod shows his creative, active, and accurate nature observations, and could be matched the members of jumping spiders (Salticidae) in present zoology as well. Such comprehensive descriptions are especially important about animals that are not simply recognizable via their common names in old texts solely. Without al-Jāḥiẓ’s elucidation of Layth’s hunting method, it might have remained unknown in all historical texts of zoology, forever, or at best could have known as a kind of spiders. In none of his antecedents’ remained essays or Aristotle’s explanations about spiders, al-Jāḥiẓ’s account of Layth could be found. It seems that seeing a descriptive name of a kind of spider, namely λυκος in Aristotle’s Historia Animalium, has sought al-Jāḥiẓ’s its appellation, watched Layth in nature around and explained carefully whatever he has seen. This could also be an example showing al-Jāḥiẓ’s own ideas in nature description, and the independence of his book of animals from Greek resources.}, keywords = {al-Jāḥiẓ,Arab National Zoology,Aristotle,Kitāb al-Ḥayawān,Layth,Spider}, title_fa = {یوزپلنگِ هشت پا، مروری بر شرح عنکبوت‌های جهنده در کتاب الحیوان جاحظ}, abstract_fa = {بدون تردید جاحظ (163-255ق) از شاخص‌ترین چهره‌های جانورشناسی سده‌های نخست دورۀ اسلامی است، به‌طوری که کتاب الحیوان او برای قرن‌ها از مهم‌ترین مآخذ جانورشناسان و دیگر حکمایی بوده که هر یک به فراخور دانش و مقولۀ تألیفشان، به موضوع جانوران نیز پرداخته‌اند. در کنار مآخذ شفاهی، آثار لغویون و تک‌نگاره‌نویسان معاصر با جاحظ و مقدم بر او، ترجمۀ نوشته‌های ارسطو از مهم‌ترین منابع او در تألیف کتاب الحیوان است. تأثیرپذیری جاحظ از ارسطو فقط به نقل و اقتباس و حتی انتقاد از نوشته‌های او محدود نمی‌شود، بلکه گاه از آنها الهام گرفته و در صدد یافتن معادلی برای آنها در مآخذ عربی یا در طبیعت پیرامون خود برآمده است. ازجملۀ این موارد که در عین حال اثر او را از جانورشناسی ارسطو و دیگر آثار جانورشناسی دورۀ اسلامی متمایز می‌سازد، شرح عنکبوتی با نام عربی «لیث» است. شرح دقیق جاحظ از رفتار این بندپا در شکار طعمه علاوه بر آن که مشاهدۀ فعال، خلاقانه و دقیق او در طبیعت را نشان می‌دهد، امکان تطبیق جانور مد نظر او را با اعضای تیرۀ عنکبوت‌های جهنده در جانورشناسی جدید فراهم می‌کند. شرح‌های مفصلی از این دست به‌ویژه در مورد جانورانی اهمیت دارد که تنها از طریق نام عمومی‌شان در آثار کهن قابل شناسایی یا قابل مطابقت با جانورشناسی جدید نیستند. بدون شرح موشکافانۀ جاحظ از روش «لیث» در شکار، احتمالاً این بندپا در متون کهن برای همیشه ناشناخته باقی می‌ماند و نهایتاً فقط به عنوان نوعی عنکبوت شناخته می‌شد. شرح جاحظ در این باره در هیچ‌یک از آثار باقی‌مانده از متقدمان او یا در نوشته‌های ارسطو در بارۀ عنکبوت‌ها وجود ندارد. به نظر می‌رسد جاحظ با دیدن نام توصیفی نوعی عنکبوت موسوم به «گرگ» در نوشته‌های ارسطو در صدد یافتن وجه تسمیۀ آن برآمده و به مشاهدۀ «لیث» در طبیعت پیرامون، و شرح و بسط مشاهداتش در این باره پرداخته است. شرحی که می‌تواند گواهی بر استقلال دانش جانورشناسی جاحظ از نوشته‌های ارسطو نیز باشد.}, keywords_fa = {ارسطو,جاحظ,جانورشناسی ملّی عرب,عنکبوت,کتاب الحیوان,لیث}, url = {https://jihs.ut.ac.ir/article_82828.html}, eprint = {https://jihs.ut.ac.ir/article_82828_9366aef03e96d58bdd278aa0f5abb12d.pdf} }
