نکاتی در بارهٔ تاریخنگاری انتقال علوم جدید: پیشینه و روش
انتقال علوم همزمان با گسترش استعمارگری شتاب گرفت و به صورت یکی از پدیدههای توأمان این تلاش برای جهانگشایی ظاهر شد. تاریخنگاری علم تا سالهای هشتاد قرن نوزده در جهان غرب و همچنین ایران غالباً متمرکز بود بر تحقیق در بارۀ نظریهها، ایدهها وکشفیات ممتاز و دانشمندان پیشتاز و نخبگان علم. ولی پس از آن به تدریج زمینههای تحقیق در غرب وسعت گرفتند و جنبههای بسیار مهم فرهنگی، اجتماعی و نهادی و اقتصادی را نیز شامل شدند. به خصوص تاریخنگاران به تاریخ علوم جدید و انتقال علم توجه بیشتری معطوف کردند. دو عامل مهم باعث این تحول شدند: یکی نظریۀ توماس کوهن بود و دیگری نقد شرقشناسی ادوارد سعید. در بخش اول این مقاله انتقال علم جدید بررسی میشود و دو مدل انتقال علم از جرج بسلا و جوزف نیدهام، دو تاریخنگار علم، در این رابطه ارائه میشود. در بخش دوم نظریهٔ توماس کوهن و نقد شرقشناسی ادوارد سعید همراه با نظریه دیپش چاکرابارتی که برای تاریخنگاران انتقال علم بسیار مهم است، بررسی میشود. در بخش سوم این مقاله نکاتی در بارۀ تاریخنگاری انتقال علم در ایران و روششناسی آن و همچنین سنجش نقدی از آن ذکر خواهد شد.

در بارۀ دو رویکرد اساسی در تاریخنگاری ریاضیات
تاریخنگاری ریاضیات در سالهای اخیر متحول شده است و رویکرد پیشین که منجر به نگارش کتابهای تأثیرگذاری در تاریخ ریاضی بود از اعتبارش کاسته شده است. نسل جدید مورخان ریاضیات یا حداقل گروهی از آنها دیگر آن رویکرد را مناسب نمیدانند. نگاه تازه به تاریخ ریاضی کاملاً متفاوت با رویکرد کلاسیک است و به واقعیات تاریخی، که در روش کلاسیک به آن توجه نمیشد، اهمیت میدهد. تفاوت میان این دو رویکرد که مبتنی بر مفروضات شناختشناسانۀ متفاوت است به دو گونه تاریخنگاری کاملاً مجزا منجر میشود. این شرایط باعث میشود که این دو نوع تاریخنگاری در مقابل هم قرار بگیرند. در این مقاله میکوشیم تا هر یکی از این رویکردها، خصوصیات، مفروضات، نتایج و ریشههای آنها را معرفی کنیم و سرانجام رویکرد دیگری پیشنهاد کنیم که از تقابل میان این دو نوع تاریخنگاری میکاهد.

رویکردهای «عقلانی» و «اجتماعی» به تاریخنگاری علم و معضل «غیرتاریخی» بودن
در این نوشته ابتدا پیشنهادهای توماس کوهن در خصوص نقش عوامل بیرونی و اجتماعی را در تاریخ علم مرور خواهیم کرد. سپس به دو رویکرد عقلانی و اجتماعی در تاریخنگاری علم که هر دو واکنشی به سخن کوهن بودهاند اشاره میکنیم. نشان خواهیم داد که تاریخنگاری عقلانی به مشکل غیرتاریخی بودن مبتلا است و دلایل معرفتی کنشگران تاریخی را در تبیینهای خود دخالت نمیدهد. علاوه بر این، چنین رویکردی با خلط تبیین و توجیه اصولاً فاقد توان تبیینی است. در ادامه، بررسی خواهیم کرد که رویکرد اجتماعی تا چه حد در معرض خطر غیرتاریخی بودن است. با دفع شبهۀ غیرتاریخی بودن نشان خواهیم داد که خطر توسل به آگاهی کاذب در کمین رویکرد اجتماعی است. دفع این خطر نیازمند به دست دادن الگویی مناسب برای رابطه میان امر عقلانی و امر اجتماعی است. یک گزینۀ پیشنهادی تبعیت از یگانهانگاری بیقاعده است که تبعات مهمی برای تاریخنگاری علم خواهد داشت.

رویکردی طبیعتگرایانه به تاریخنگاری علم: مطالعۀ موردی داروین
یافتههای علوم شناختی به نحو روزافزونی نشان میدهند که تمثیلها و استعارهها نقشی اساسی در شناخت انسان بازی میکنند. دانشمندان نیز از این قاعده مستثنی نیستند و بنا بر این استعارهها و تمثیلها در علم نیز نقشی اساسی دارند. هرچند فیلسوفان علم چند دههای است که به این نقش پرداختهاند اما مورخان علم، با ذکر چند استثنا در چند سال اخیر، این نقش را نادیده گرفتهاند. دعوی نوشتۀ حاضر این است که جدی گرفتن نقش تمثیلها و استعارهها در تاریخ علم نگاه نوینی را به گذشته میگشاید. به عنوان نمونهای از این نحو تاریخنگاری پس از اشارهای به کار یکی از مورخان حاضر که این نحوۀ تاریخنگاری را به کار گرفته است اشارهای جرئینگرانهتر به بخش کوچکی از کار داروین جوان خواهد شد. سپس برهمین مبنا از این نظر دفاع خواهد شد که فهم گذشته تنها با نگاه امروزین ممکن است و ترس از تاریخنگاری به سبک ویگی تنها مانعی بر فهم گذشته فراهم میکند. و در انتها از این نگاه دفاع میشود که با اتخاذ چنین نگاهی راه برای استفاده از تاریخ علم برای برساختن برخی فرضیهها در علم رایج باز میشود.

کوهن، تاریخنگاری و انقلاب علمی
مورخان امروزه علم در بارۀ مفهوم انقلاب علمی تردیدهای فراوانی کردهاند. در این مقاله به بررسی مفهوم انقلاب علمی در نزد کوهن و بررسی دو چالش مهم تاریخنگاری علم میپردازیم. چالش اول ناظر به ناآشنا بودن مقولۀ انقلاب برای بازیگران قرن هفدهم است. چالش دوم مبهم بودن معیارهای تشخیص انقلاب است. واژۀ انقلاب در مورد تحول اساسی در فلسفۀ طبیعی قرن هفدهم معیارهای تاریخنگاران را برآورده نمیسازد. با وجود این به نظر میرسد که بتوان از آن به مثابۀ استعارهای مفید در بیان تحولات قرن هفدهم استفاده کرد.

مورخ یا کیمیاگر به مثابۀ ریشهشناس: مطالعۀ موردی عنوان «ال-کیمیا»
شیوههای مختلف تاریخنگاری، نظیر حالمحور، تاریخی-فلسفی، کُربنی و یونگی، در بازسازی تاریخ کیمیای دورۀ اسلامی به کار گرفته شده است. در این میان، یکی از فنونی که در هر یک از این شیوهها، به نحوی از انحا، میتواند به کار آید، فنّ ریشهشناسی است. در اینجا، ریشهشناسیهای مختلفی که برخی مسلمانان کیمیاگر یا اهل تراجم (نظیر ابن ندیم، صفدی، خوارزمی، جلدکی، ازنیقی) از واژۀ «ال-کیمیا» عرضه کردهاند، ارائه شده و در دو منظر تاریخی و پدیدارشناختی تحلیل شده است.

تحولات در تاریخنگاری علم و توجه به مسألۀ «علم و ارزش»
در چند دهۀ اخیر فیلسوفان علم به مسألۀ اثرگذاریِ ارزشها بر نظریههای علمی توجه بسیار بیشتری نشان دادهاند. تا پیش از آن، عموماً دیدگاهی حاکم بود که مرزی قاطع میان ساحت علم و ارزش رسم میکرد. به ویژه در نیمۀ دوم قرن بیستم، عقیده به آرمان علم غیرارزشبار میان فیلسوفان علم رواج داشته است که مطابق آن، در ارزیابیِ معرفتیِ نظریههای علمی فقط ارزشهای معرفتی میتوانند نقش موجهی داشته باشند. در این مقاله با مرور مختصر سیر تحولات در توجه به مسألۀ علم و ارزش در قرن بیستم، از این ادعا دفاع میکنیم که از جمله عوامل مهمِ توجه بیشتر به مسألۀ نقش ارزشها در علمْ تحولات در تاریخنگاری علم و بهویژه توجه به نگرشهای برونگرایانه، تأکید جدیتر بر دادههای تجربی، و پرهیز از مغالطههای گاهنگارانه (آناکرونیسم) در ارائۀ روایتهای تاریخی بوده است. در بخش پایانی مقاله، به این موضوع میپردازیم که شناخت بهتر از نقش ارزشها در علم پرسشهای تازهای پیش روی تاریخنگار علم قرار میدهد و مفاهیم مطرحشده در بحث از رابطۀ علم و ارزش، مانند تمایز ارزشهای معرفتی و غیرمعرفتی، میتواند چارچوب مفهومی جدیدی در اختیار تاریخنگار علم قرار دهد و از این طریق احتمالاً بر نظریهها و روشهای تاریخنگاری علم اثرگذار باشد.

چرا دوگانگی میان برونگرایی و درونگرایی نباید منحل شود تحلیلی از تاریخ تمایز علم محض/ علم کاربردی
در حالیکه مدافعان تحلیلهایِ درونگرایانه سعی دارند با استفاده از ویژگیهای شناختیْ علوم محض و کاربردی را از یکدیگر متمایز کنند، مدافعان تحلیلهای برونگرایانه تلاش میکنند با توسل به ویژگیهای غیرشناختی یا زمینهایْ تمایز مذکور را ترسیم کنند. در این مقاله، استدلال خواهد شد که هیچیک از این رویکردها بهتنهایی، خصوصاً در بازنمایی تمایز علم محض/ علم کاربردی و نسبت میان آنها، کفایت لازم را ندارند. در ادامه و پس از معرفی مدل وحدتبخش نانای از تاریخهای درونی و بیرونی، نشان داده خواهد شد که این مدل برای تحلیلِ تاریخِ تمایزِ محض/کاربردی مطلوب است.
