Existing accounts are primarily limited to personal memoirs or interviews conducted during his lifetime. Occasioned by the discovery of the original manuscript of his first book, this article examines archival documents to investigate Behzad’s life from its beginnings until 1951 (1330 SH). It aims to uncover the contexts that provided the necessary foundations for the creation of such a work. Consequently, this paper presents both a narrative of Behzad’s scientific career and the evolutionary trajectory of his book, What Does Darwin Say?, based on the recovered manuscript. Divided into several sections, the study offers a sociological narrative of science, chronicling the dissemination of scientific theories and the historical spectrum of supportive and opposing reactions they elicited. تا کنون دربارۀ زندگی علمی و فرهنگی دکتر محمود بهزاد که برخی او را پدر زیست‌شناسی جدید می‌دانند، پژوهشی متکی بر کاوش اسناد دست‌اول صورت نگرفته است. هر چه هست یا نقل خاطرات است یا گفت‌وگویی که در زمان حیات ایشان صورت گرفته. من در این مقاله به مناسبت پیدا شدن نسخۀ دست‌نویس نخستین کتاب ایشان، سری به اسناد زده‌ام و زندگی او را از آغاز تا سال ۱۳۳۰ بررسی کرده‌ام و تا حد ممکن زمینه‌هایی را که می‌تواند بستر لازم را برای نوشتن چنین کتابی آماده سازد، آشکار ساخته‌ام. بنا بر این، مخاطب در این مقاله هم با روایتی از زندگی علمی بهزاد و هم سیر تحولی چاپ کتاب داروین چه می‌گوید؟ بر پایۀ دست‌نویس پیداشده روبه‌رو است. این نوشته به چند «پاره» تقسیم شده و در هر پاره بخشی از این روایت به دست داده شده است. در واقع، در اینجا با نوعی روایت جامعه‌شناختی از علم مواجهیم که از سویی روند ترویج و گسترش نظریه‌های علمی را، و از دیگر سو واکنش‌های موافق و مخالف با آن نظریه را در بستری تاریخی روایت می‌کند.  https://jihs.ut.ac.ir/article_104989_983c94a3222067a1fb01b9694f1f4354.pdf
