Shams al-Dīn al-kīshī is one of the famous scholars of the seventh century AH. He worked in philosophical and Sufi sciences and was interested in jurisprudence, interpretation, and hadith. He is considered one of the greatest medical scholars.
In this article, I refer to two recently discovered notes in his handwriting in the margins of Book 5 of Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine. These two notes reveal interesting things. For example, there is a difference between the sources in mentioning the title and name of Shams al-Dīn’s father. In one of these margins, the author explicitly reads his name as: “Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad alkīshī”.
On the other hand, mentioning an unusual event about a medical point that happened in the presence of the famous ruler of Isfahan, Bahāʼu al-dīn Muḥammad, and al-kīshī's perception of it, can shed light on al-kīshī's scientific thoughts. Also, in this article, an attempt has been made to roughly date the mentioned manuscripts and to extract some historical and scientific findings from these margins.
