Historical evidences show that water sharing management has long been current in Iran. Water sharing systems in Iran are classified into three groups based on ground, volume and time units, the latter group itself is divided into solar clocks and water clocks (Pangān/cup). Pangān is a graded bowl, mainly of copper, in that middle which is a hole and it is placed on a water filled pot. This method has been used in Iran until less than a century ago and according to historical documents it was used for long time. This paper aims to provide a review of Iranians’ strategies in water sharing management and to introduce a part of their technologies relying on Pangān.
