Certain areas of research occupy a "liminal" or borderland status, transcending the boundaries of any single academic discipline. Today, we refer to such inquiries as "interdisciplinary" and emphasize their necessity and importance, at least in theory. In practice, however, this liminality often engenders a state of marginalization. A considerable number of studies—precisely because they cannot be neatly categorized within a single specialized field or straightforwardly labeled—remain under-read, under-cited, and insufficiently recognized for their true scholarly value.
